Five sports cars and a vintage racer symbolize the speed, design and excitement that made Porsche a leader in sports car and racing machinery. Through Jan. 5, 2009: 100th Anniversary: 1908 New York to Paris Automobile Race. The exhibit features the artist’s paintings and drawings. Through Oct. 5: Chris Drury: Mushrooms|Clouds. The exhibit includes paintings, prints, sculpture, and video about the legacy of nuclear activity in the American West. Through Nov. 9: Margarita Cabreba: Hummers. The artist’s vibrantly colored sport utility vehicles challenge viewers to engage in debates about Mexican immigration, border relations, and the politics of the American Dream. Through Nov. 16: Dan Goods: The Hidden Light. Goods, the visual strategist at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, applies some of the complex principles studied at JPL to this multimedia installation. Through Jan. 4, 2009: Terry Falke: Observations in an Occupied Wilderness. The artist’s photographs form a portrait of the American Southwest. NEVADA HISTORICAL SOCIETY 1650 N. The museum features a ghost town, a mine replica, videos on the history of the mint and plate tectonics, the John Orr gold nugget, and a large Black Rock mammoth skeleton. May Museum, an arboretum and botanical garden, and a seasonal children’s park. The museum presents the life of Wilbur D. May and artifacts from his travels through Europe, Asia, and Africa. The museum’s north wing is home to traveling exhibits, and it features the garden court with waterfalls, koi ponds, and tropical plants.
