Reno doesn’t have any galleries exclusively for pottery, but if people want to buy a handmade stoneware teapot or an original set of plates, they just have to know where to look. Five pottery studios in Lemmon Valley, Red Rock, Truckee, Gold Hill, and Doyle, Calif., welcome visitors.

Great Basin Pottery, at 423-725 Scott Road, Doyle, Calif., is open to visitors whenever Paul Herman is home. Call (530)827-2706 or visit greatbasinpottery.com. He holds an annual fall sale from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 25-26, Dec. 2-3, and 9-10.

Joe and Shiho Winters’ studio, at 16620 Fetlock Drive, Rancho Haven in the Red Rock area, is open most of the time. They request a phone call, at (775)969-3394, for those interested in visiting. They’ll hold their annual fall sale from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 25-26, Dec. 2-3, and 9-10.

Mimi Patrick of Argenta Earth & Fire Company, 1631 Main St., Gold Hill, says her shop is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. (“Unless the fishing is good.”) Call 847-7466 or visit nevpotter.com.
The public is welcome by appointment. Barbara Prodaniuk’s studio is at 15576 Waterloo Circle, Truckee, Calif. Call (530)587-1106.

Dale and Sally Pappas are planning a holiday pottery sale 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 2-3. They also keep semi-regular hours at 295 Oregon Blvd., Lemmon Valley. The best bets are to show up in the morning, when they’re most likely to be in the studio, or call 677-1103.
